Landing your DREAM career!

Stylists often ask me about what it took for me to become successful. First off, I always tell them how flattered I am that they see me that way, because to be honest, I feel like I still have a lot of work ahead of me! That said, what I do tell them is that my path to success has been a great one because I was able to focus on one area in my career. I didn’t spend years training in every service offered in the hair industry. Instead, I chose one area I wanted to focus on, which was hair extensions.

I spent so much time perfecting this niche, and once I was completely confident, I made it my mission to find the best extensions on the market. Once I found Natural Beaded Rows, my search was over. I knew that this was what I wanted to do and where I wanted to be. I believe that when you know what you want and where you want to be, you’ll never work a day in your life. It kills me to see certain stylists half assing their way through their careers. So many of them want to do extensions because there’s a lot of money in them, and while that is true, you still have to be good at what you’re offering to your clients. Extensions may look easy, but it takes a lot (and I mean A LOT!) of training to become a pro at ‘em. I’ve invested a lot of time and money into my extension training because I understand the value of it – I love nothing more than seeing the confidence a fresh set of beautiful extensions gives my clients.

Where are you half-assing it in your BUSINESS?

When envisioning your niche, it’s important to imagine who your dream client is. Remember that with a high end service, you will have a high end clientele. And while you are the person who sets the vibe in your salon, it’s key to know the types of clients you want in your chair.

Whether your niche is hair coloring, cutting, styling, or something else entirely, it’s important to stay ruthlessly focused on building just that. When a stylist specializes in multiple services, I feel that they’re spreading themselves thin. Think of it this way: if you went to a plastic surgeon who specializes in nose jobs, would you want him to perform a boob job on you? I think not! If it were me, I would search for a doctor who specialized in exactly what I was looking for.

Case in point: Instead of spreading yourself thin, commit to what you’re most passionate about. I promise you – that shit will blow up and you’ll be happier and more in love with your job than ever before.
